Swedish Institute Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship
In 2025, Katrina Baladjay left the Philippines to begin an extraordinary new chapter in northern Sweden. As one of the first recipients of the Swedish Institute’s Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship, she joined the SpaceMaster program at Luleå University of Technology.
Driven by a passion for physics and curiosity about the universe, Katrina came to Kiruna to deepen her knowledge of space physics and prepare for a career contributing to the development of the space sector. Her ambition extends beyond her own achievements: she hopes to use space science to support the environment and future generations while inspiring more young women to pursue careers in physics and space technology.
On 19 September 2026, Katrina participated in an SI KickOff panel interview, sharing her experiences with a new generation of international scholars. Her story shows how a scholarship can become much more than financial support—it can open the door to knowledge, international collaboration, personal growth, and the confidence to inspire others.
