SG Nordic–Baltic 2026 Brings Together the Next Generation of Space Professionals in Finland
On 19 January 2026, the second SG[Nordic-Baltic] 2026 was held, kindly hosted by the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI). The event brought together around 50 participants in total, including Students and Young Professionals, for a full day of inspiring keynote talks, hands-on workshops, and valuable networking focused on the Nordic–Baltic space ecosystem.
The day featured keynote presentations on topics such as the FMI Space Situational Awareness (SSA) centre, working in fast-growing space startups, and the future outlook of the European space sector following the ESA Ministerial Council 2025 (CM25).
In the afternoon, panel discussions addressed topics including orbital launch capabilities, the creation of and contributions to comprehensive Space Situational Awareness, and engaging the next generation in the space sector—all topics of high relevance to the space ecosystem north of the Arctic Circle. One of the panel discussions were moderated by our own alumni, Benjamin Åkerlund.
Workshops were conducted in collaboration with ESA BIC and LAUREA University of Applied Sciences, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup development. Students from Luleå University of Technology (LTU), including SpaceMaster students, actively participated in discussions and workshop activities.
The day concluded with startup idea pitches and a summary of key takeaways from the workshops, along with a special thank you to the event partners. LTU, the SpaceMaster programme, and the UNIVERSEH alliance are proud partners of the event.
