Eligibility
A Bachelor’s degree, basic engineering programme or Swedish Kandidatexamen with a minimum of 180 ECTS will grant eligibility to apply to the programme.
Areas: physics, space physics, plasma physics, nuclear and particle physics, atmospheric science,, space science, planetology, astronomy, remote sensing, numerical simulations, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, space engineering, aerospace engineering, robotics, automation, communications, electronics, mechatronics, control theory or equivalent.
A minimum of 22.5 ECTS in mathematics at the university level is required.

Application Fee
An application fee of 900 SEK (Swedish kronor) must be received by the deadline indicated in order for your application to be processed. Any payments received after the deadline will result in your application status being changed to late. Late applications are only processed at the discretion of each university, if there are places available.
EU/EEA and Switzerland citizens are exempt from fees, but must document their status.
Citizens of Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and their autonomous regions (Åland Islands, Faroe Islands, Greenland) are not required to pay application fees.
Students who are registered for a course or programme at a Swedish university at the time they submit their application for future semesters are not required to pay an application fee.

You must submit the following documents once you have completed your online application:
- Cover sheet (automatically received at application)
- Motivation letter with indication of 2nd year university and track preference
- Certificates and diplomas from your previous education
- Transcripts of completed courses and academic grades

Please note: All English tests results must be sent straight from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and reach University Studies in Sweden by the deadline for submitting documents. The institution code is Sweden 3477 and this must be stated. If the test result will arrive after the deadline of February 2, 2026, a copy of the test can be uploaded beforehand together with the other documents. - A copy of the page in your passport with your personal data and photograph or some other document of identification
- Curriculum Vitae including academic studies and professional experience
- Recommendation letters in English from two senior experts in your field of studies.

Key Dates
When applying for the Course, it is important to remember certain key dates.
- Start of 1st semester at LTU, Kiruna, Sweden: 31 August 2026
- Online service opens: 16 October 2025
- Application deadline: 15 January 2026
- Documents must arrive no later than: 2 February 2026
- Notification of selection results: 26 March 2026
- Payment of participation costs for the 1st semester should be done at latest by 14 May 2026
Proof regarding English proficiency must arrive no later than 2 February 2026. All applicants are encouraged to submit their documents immediately after registering at www.universityadmissions.se.
If your Diploma certificate cannot meet the deadline outlined above, you may conditionally be admitted, provided that your Diploma is achieved by 31 August 2026 at the latest. In this case an official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the SpaceMaster Program must be sent in with your application. The document must be issued through and certified by a representative of the Academic Registrar’s Office, the Examinations Office or equivalent of your institution. Assessment of the Applications
The applications are assessed as follows:
- Authenticity of all certificates and diplomas will be checked by the University Admission service in Sweden.
- Eligibility of applicants according to the eligibility requirements will be checked by the Admissions Office at LTU. Applicants who fulfil the eligibility requirements will be admitted to the Program.
- Eligible applicants will be evaluated by the Consortium Admission Board according to the Ranking Criteria established by the current SpaceMaster Consortium, in line with the proficiency requirements for Program tracks. In order to comply with the available places at each Partner University, this information will be taken into account during the assessment process.
Assessment criteria
- Study credits (academic grades during BSc or equivalent university studies). Weight: 71%
- University position (according to the Consortium internal ranking list). Weight: 1%
- Practical experience, professional capabilities (participation in experiments and project work, internship and trainee job in areas related to and unrelated to the Program, other types of employment, available scientific publications if any. Indicate activity and time period). Weight: 14%
- Overseas experience (studies outside the home country. Indicate university, activity and time period). Weight: 14%
The final rank will be calculated on the basis of the achieved points using the four criteria. Applicants are encouraged to reflect all their activities in order to receive as high of a rank as possible.
Admissions and 2nd Year Studies
The candidates will follow the admission and registration procedures at LTU for the first year. At the end of the first year, students will follow the admission and registration procedures at the corresponding Partner Universities responsible for the second year. Details will be sent during the first study year, to the students concerned, of how and when to realize this procedure.
Students who will opt to study the second year at CTU will proceed with the registration before the start of the first year.
Admission for the second year depends on obtaining satisfactory performance during the first year according to the regulations of the corresponding Partner University. In exceptional circumstances (failure by the student to obtain satisfactory results during the first year, unforeseen problems such as non-deliverance of a visa, mutually agreed changes) the second year university may be altered with the final decision being made in the second semester of the first year.
